Ceylon cinnamon is a tree that grows to a height of 10-15m, with long, shiny leaves and small, round flowers that bear dark blue berries. After passing through ancient Greece and Rome, the cinnamon tree became famous in the Middle Ages. Thanks to Venetian merchants, apothecaries made fortifying medicines, and medieval dignitaries used it to flavor their dishes.
