Spike lavender flowers bloom late, from late August, with pale purple flowers in spikes at the end of long stems. It is cultivated mainly in the south of France, but also in Spain, Portugal, South Africa, etc. It prefers wild calcareous soil, but does not grow above 80m above sea level. The name "spike" comes from the fact that it heals the wounds of poisonous snakes. This lavender is not harvested in large quantities in France. Its scent is less delicate than other lavenders, but it is favored by aromatherapy experts for its excellent properties as a "daily first aid".
