［ Characteristics of the plant ］
Eucalyptus globulus trees are 30 to 50 meters tall. As with other eucalyptus species, they have rounded, gray-blue young leaves and mature lanceolate leaves, white flowers with many stamens on the leaf axils, and hemispherical woody fruits. The Latin name "Globulus" comes from the fact that the flower buds are covered with a cap-like structure. Blue eucalyptus has long been used as a raw material for paper pulp in Europe and southern Europe, mainly in Africa. However, its production has exhausted the soil, making it difficult to replant it. The "green desert" refers to these eucalyptus plantations. Eucalyptus trees are also sensitive to heat, which has caused many fires, such as the one that occurred in Portugal in 2006.
